State champion middleweight for the Red Roves who took advantage of his final, healthy senior season to lead one of the greatest Easton teams of all time.

As a sophomore, picked up his first varsity win in a 27-23 victory over Nazareth.  Also posted a key win in a dual meet victory over Phillipsburg.  Went 0-1 in his postseason debut.

As a junior, solidified his spot in the lineup with a championship at the Easton Wrestling Invitational.  Defeated future state champion Rich McIntyre (Freedom), 8-2, in a dual win over the Patriots.  However, after a 9-2 regular season, Stanley suffered a season ending elbow injury, costing him his postseason.

As a senior, Stanley went undefeated in December, including an Easton Invitational championship where he did not allow a point.  The wins kept rolling into January, where he shutout future All American Bernie Fritz (Liberty).  He entered the District 11 tournament undefeated, then after two falls defeated future two-time state champion Jerry Rodriguez (Saucon Valley) in the semifinal.  But he was upset in the D11 finals by Greg Skutches (Nazareth), losing 8-4 and reversing Stanley’s regular season victory.  The following week at regionals, Stanley gained his revenge with a 5-0 shutout of Skutches, then blanked Paul Taren (Wyoming Valley West) for the second time to win a Northeast Regional title.  At the state tournament, Stanley opened with a 5-2 win over Mark Stemmler (Greater Latrobe), then beat Jeff Meckley (West York), 9-3 in quarterfinals.  He pinned Dan Harpster (Altoona) in the semifinals, setting up a finals match with future All American Tim Mousetis (Washington).  Stanley gave up the first takedown, and was trailing 4-2 before scoring a takedown on the edge with six seconds left in the first period to tie the match at 4.  Stanley rode out the entire second period, then escaped to start the third to take a narrow lead.  With 1:09 left in the match, Stanley scored the clinching takedown, and held on to win 7-5.

He was one of two Easton champions at the 1974 tournament as the Rovers led the team score, though it was not officially kept until the following season.  After the season, Stanley was named an honorable mention All American by Wrestling USA magazine.
